Japan launches new helicopter carrier aircraft

Japan launches the second helicopter carrier aircraft named "Kaga." Together with a similar aircraft carrier, "Izumo," Japan now has two warships that multiply the pacifist powers of the country.

Giant ocean of 248 meters long was launched from a shipyard in Yokohama. At least 520 soldiers will be stationed on the helicopter carrier. Since World War II the Japanese constitution which embraced the ideology of pacifism actually prohibits the existence of the armed forces. Therefore the Japanese military calls itself the "Defense Force."

The process of ship work "Kaga" and "Izumo" lasted for eight years. Both helicopter carriers were driven by a Diesel engine. According to state media in Tokyo paid 1.2 billion US dollars. "Kaga" is taken from the name of the Japanese province on the island of Honshu.

The Kaga runway allows five helicopters to land or fly at the same time. Although a helicopter carrier, a number of military experts believe Kaga runway is also designed to accommodate the latest jet fighters.

Kaga and Izumo each can accommodate 28 medium-sized helicopters or 14 large helicopters. Included in the defense system are 7 helicopters designed specifically to destroy the submarine. The feature is considered urgent to detect Chinese submarines more effectively.

The 2010 Forecast International report features a number of Kaga design features capable of accommodating high-wing T-Trailer V-22 Osprey or even the fifth-generation US fighter, the F-35 Lightning II. Its nature does not require a long runway and can land vertically makes the F-35 suitable to operate on top Kaga.

Warship for Purpose "Humanity"

With these two aircraft carriers, Japan is claiming to want to increase the capacity and personal carrying capacity or relief goods, such as for natural disasters. "We can contribute more to humanitarian activities," Defense Minister Takayuki Kobayashi said.

However, the selection of the name "Kaga" is considered controversial. The same name was once used for the Japanese aircraft carrier that had been active since 1928 and was involved in the Pearl Harbor attack. The ship was forbidden the US military during the Midway War, June 1942.
