Saudi Arabia Drops Missiles fired into Mecca

Saudi Air Defense Forces on Thursday (27/7) managed to drop a missile fired by Al-Houthi fighters. The missile leads to the Holy City of Mecca, Saudi Arabian news agency reported.

The ballistic missile, fired by Yemeni Shia militia members, was intercepted by the Air Defense Forces using Patriot Missile surfaces into the air. Missiles were successfully dropped in uninhabited areas. Meanwhile, a Saudi-led coalition aircraft destroyed the launch pads of missiles.

In October 2016, a Saudi Arab-led Arab coalition announced that the military forces intercepted a missile fired at Mecca from Yemen.

The missile was destroyed 65 kilometers from the holiest city of the Muslims, and no damage was reported.

Al-Houthi fighters have been targeting the border town of Saudi Arabia since the beginning of the war in Yemen.

On Tuesday (20/7) 20 Yemeni civilians were killed and much more injured, as a Saudi-led coalition attacked a village in the south of the country, officials from the Al-Houthi armed movement and the government said Wednesday (19/7).

The UN says the victims of Tuesday's bombing, which took place in the al-Atera village of Taiz province - where fighting between two groups in Yemen has risen - are internally displaced.

The Yemeni government, which is internationally recognized, ensured that about 20 people were killed, including women and children. However, the government did not provide further details about the attack.
